Calling all Inventors: Six Ways to Make Money on Your Big Idea

By Ben Stark Learn how to turn your dream into a true money-making invention. Use these six tips to build a foundation for success in todays competitive mass retail market. 1. Protect yourself. The first step to success is making the investment to protect yourself. It can cost anywhere from $500 or even $10,000 to patent your idea, but its worth it. This is an area you dont want to skimp on, even if it means you have less to spend elsewhere. Without a strong patent, youre more vulnerable to dishonest marketers and get-rich quick schemes and less attractive to the reputable marketers. Ensure the patent is in your name only; dont assign your patent to any other entities. 2. Do your market research. Market research doesnt have to cost big bucks. In fact, it can be as simple as mailing or e-mailing a quick survey to your friends and family. Ask questions that will help you determine whether there is a need for your product, if its appealing and if it solves a problem. Ask for honest answers and evaluations. You may find you need to change a few things about your product, but this initial step can save you valuable time and money later on. 3. Develop a real prototype. Marketers are looking for real products, not just ideas. Take the time to purchase your own materials and design a prototype by hand, or investigate other options. Enlist the services of an industrial design company to build a good prototype. Or try your local college or university. Many have industrial design departments that provide this service. However, avoid the urge to mass produce your product at this stage in the process. You want to get some sales experience and develop a marketing strategy before investing the money in mass production. 4. Get some sales experience. Most marketers want to see a little sales success before agreeing to represent a new product. It can be as simple as visiting your local hardware store and pitching your new product to the owner. This is a great way to get some feedback. Retailers know what sells and why, so they can lend valuable insight. Plus, if you are able to find a few stores that are willing to sell your product, and you can demonstrate a sales history, its more likely a marketer will agree to represent your product. 5. Create a video demo. To entice a marketer to choose your product, its important to include a demo that shows your product in action. This doesnt have to be anything more than a home video, but a video is the best approach. Drawings just dont do a good job of demonstrating how a new product works. Real people using the real product is always best. Be sure to record close-up views of the product, along with several action shots. Talk about the product, what problem it solves and highlight any bells and whistles that make it unique. 6. Find a reputable backer. Once youve patented your idea, conducted market research, developed a prototype, created a video demo and have some sales experience, its time to find a marketer to help you sell and promote your product in the mass retail market. Its important to spend time researching companies. Generally, its best to avoid all-in-one shops. The more work you do yourself, the better. Look for a marketing company that is credible and that has established relationships with mass retailers. Experience is of the essence here. Beware of those who seem dishonest or appear to take advantage of inventors and/or manufacturers by charging high fees. If possible, ask to talk to other inventors or manufacturers the company represents. Are You Already Marketing on the Internet

By Lisa Sequera Take a moment to think about how you would really answer this question. If given enough thought just about any business owner who utilizes the Internet for any purpose will likely find that whether or not they intentionally organized an Internet marketing campaign, they may already be marketing their products and services on the Internet. This article will examine some subtle ways business owners may already be marketing their business on the Internet. Do you have a website for your business? Business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their products or services online just by virtue of the fact that they have a website online. Having a live website means there is the potential for curious Internet users to access your website. You may not be actively promoting your website but you may still find that your website generates interest in your products despite the lack of promotional endeavors; this is a form of passive marketing. Do you participate in message boards and include a link to your website in your signature? Again business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their website online. Savvy business owners realize the importance of participation in industry related message boards to create an interest in their products and services, establish themselves as knowledgeable about the industry and offer a link to their own website even if it is in the signature line of their posts. However, even business owners who do not realize this may already be inadvertently enjoying the benefits of Internet marketing which result from message board participation just by doing something they enjoy and may be doing as a form of leisure activity. Do you include keywords which are relevant to your business in the content of your website? Business owners who answer yes to this question are also already marketing on the Internet by optimizing their website for these keywords. These search engine optimization (SEO) affects the websites whether or not they were even aware of the concept of keyword density and how it can help to SEO a website. Business owners will likely use certain words often depending on the type of products and services they offer just because it is natural and logical to do so. This tendency, however, can result in search engines boosting your website rankings for these particular keywords. The concept of SEO is much more involved and complex than simply using keywords frequently but business owners can gain some benefit just by naturally applying relevant keywords to their website. Do you solicit feedback from your customers online? This is yet another example of how business owners may be accidentally marketing their business on the Internet. Most business owners realize the importance of soliciting feedback from customers for business purposes and business owners who offer products online might solicit feedback in the form of online surveys. Although the business owners may be doing this simply for a business purpose the fact that it is done online makes it fall into the category of Internet marketing. We have already discussed several ways in which business owners may already be marketing online but what about business owners who want to have an increased online presence? Business owners who may already be marketing online accidentally may wish to launch a full scale Internet marketing campaign. The best way to do this is to hire a consultant with experience in Internet marketing to assist you in creating a campaign which is effective for your target audience. How to Deal with the Extra Pounds after Menopause

By Foras Aje Defined, menopause occurs when a woman stops ovulating and her monthly period (menstruation) ceases. At this stage, many women experience weight gain, particularly around the abdomen. Although normal hormonal changes are thought to be partly responsible, the exact process is not understood. You see gaining weight after menopause isn’t always caused from hormonal imbalances but may be a result of age and lifestyle factors which include exercising less, eating more, and genetics. With aging, muscles decrease in bulk and the metabolism slows down. These changes can contribute to packing on the pounds around the time of menopause. Other physical changes associated with gaining weight after menopause may include: Loss of libido Vaginal dryness Hair growth (or loss). That stated, formulas that can be used for controlling gaining weight after menopause include increasing physical activity, reducing calories and dietary fat, and making healthier dietary decisions. To manage your weight after menopause you should try to: Eat a healthy, or better still Mucus-less (or mucus poor) Diet of Fruits, Vegetables (leafy and roots) Have regular and sustained aerobic exercise; this will give your metabolism a boost. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity everyday. Build up and maintain your muscle mass with strength training such as weight training or weight bearing exercise like walking and bicycling. Though not necessarily the end all be all, when done correctly, these tips above will see to it that weight gain around the time of menopause can definitely be curtailed and adequately taken care of. Oh, and as an added bonus, anti-aging benefits also begin to naturally kick in, so be prepared to start clearing up your calendar for more nights on the town. Online Dating Background Checks

By Andrew Unsworth Background verification in online dating is about risk reduction and it makes good sense. None of the sites can provide any guarantees that they have fool-proof systems, but they do help in reducing the risk. As social networking, online dating and the Internet increase the number of people that we can meet, it also decreases what we can know about their life history and experiences. The popularity of online dating has born numerous niche sites and background verification services to weed out the weirdos, but the true danger of sexual health has been forgotten. The media has done wonders to perpetuate the fear of being raped or murdered on a first date by someone you met online. Now naturally one should be cautious initially and meet in public etc., but this is common sense. The chances of getting murdered from your online date are infinitesimally small. Nevertheless, a criminal record check is a premium service for which hundreds of thousands of online daters pay more than $50 per month. Unfortunately, online dating sites have overlooked what is most important, which is personal health. According to the US Department of Justice, 1 tenth of 1 percent of the population has been convicted of a sexual offense and more than 60% are currently in custody or being monitored. Because online daters are mostly between 18 to 45 years, which is about 2/3 of the total population, lets just assume a very high number and triple the original figure; assuming that 3 in 1000 online daters are sexual weirdos. OK, sure this is something to consider, but when it comes to sex health the numbers are much scarier. 1 in 5 people over the ages of 12 has genital herpes and up to 90% dont tell their partners. Mostly, this is because they have not been tested for genital herpes and confuse their symptoms with other temporary irritations. According to CDC, more than 1 million people have HIV in the US and at least 25% dont know they are infected, again because they have not been tested. HIV is a fatal disease without any symptoms for 10 to 15 years or longer. OK, but you use condoms. Well, in the case of genital herpes condoms have been found to be only 50% effective in preventing transmission. This is because they only partially cover the area from which the virus may shed and be passed-on. Read our STD facts section for details, but you will also see that common curable STDs may lead to serious long-term health consequences when they go undiagnosed and untreated and they also increase the chances of getting HIV and genital herpes. The bottom line is that the risk of contracting STDs is the most serious risk for dating, especially so for online daters. We are never going to know for certain about someones full sexual history and we probably never should. We are of course entitled to our privacy and this would get absurd. But, remember that there is at least a 1 in 5 chance that your date has genital herpes and a 1 in 300 chance that he/she has HIV, versus a 3 in 1000 chance that he is a sexual deviant. Criminal background checks cannot guarantee that you wont be raped and a negative HIV test in the last 6 months cannot guarantee clean health, but you see where the priority should be and that risk reducing the risk is essential. Given that condoms alone dont do the job, you need to at least ensure that people are getting tested and are socially responsible. Family and Relationships: A Capable Woman – a Caring Society

By John C. Anderson The final 22 verses of chapter 31 in the book of Proverbs present an acrostic poem in which each verse begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This poem contains the sage advice of a mother to her son, a king named Lemuel. She outlines for him what he should be looking for in a prospective wife. Lemuel’s mother describes a capable woman, one any mother would be delighted to see her son marry. It is a woman she describes that would inevitably help create the family and relationships her son would have one day. This woman is a jewel. She can be trusted (verse 11) to do the right thing, whether in evaluating and purchasing real estate (verse 16), buying and selling merchandise (verses 14 and 24), managing the household staff (verses 15 and 27), providing for the needs of her family (verses 15 and 21), or helping the poor and needy (verse 20). She is an industrious individual (verses 13, 15, 17-19, 22). She is a person of inner strength (verse 25), wisdom and compassion (verse 26). Though this portrayal describes an idealized woman whose characteristics would be hard for anyone, woman or man, to live up to, it says a lot about the biblical ideal for society. Caring for her family and supporting her husband is her primary focus, but neither her husband nor the society in which she lives constrains her from using her many skills. She is able to serve her family and others because the cultural and legal standards of her society give her freedom to function in areas that many societies, even to this day, prohibit women from entering. While few individuals can measure up to this idealized standard, even fewer societies throughout history have accorded women the opportunities and freedom to do so. The biblical ideal portrayed in Proverbs 31 indicates that the cultural standards the Creator set for His people were far more progressive than many would believe. The Bible relates that God created man and woman in His image (Genesis 1:27). The first woman, Eve, is pictured as having been created from Adam’s rib, not as some subspecies but as a person of comparable talents and abilities (Genesis 2:18). In marriage, a woman is instructed to submit to her husband’s authority (1 Peter 3:1), but in the next breath the husband is commanded to treat her with understanding and to honor her as one having the same potential for eternal life–”heirs together of the grace of life,” as the apostle Peter expressed it (verse 7). The biblical model for society is patriarchal in structure, but it has little in common with the selfish, uncaring, male-dominated patriarchies this world has produced throughout history. Rather, the biblical model reflects God’s own loving character. A husband is to love his wife as much as he does himself, and the wife is to respect her husband (Ephesians 5:33). A society with this at its foundation doesn’t establish a multitude of rules restricting women at every point of the compass. Some fortunate couples have succeeded in working together in the kind of loving harmony and respect implied by Proverbs 31, but sadly it has never become norm for our society and culture as the Bible directs us to follow. Your Financial Security’s Greatest Enemy

By David Wilding If you had to choose the greatest enemy of your financial security, where would you look? In the lineup, as you look them over, who would you choose? There are so many that qualify. Banks, credit card companies, persuasive advertisers, finance companies, and identity thieves, would all be in the running. Banks because, while you are their customer, they do not have your best interests at heart. They hit you with all sorts of fees and charges for services which used to be provided free. They constantly bombard you with offers to go further into debt. Car loans, home equity loans and other lines of credit are pitched in every statement you receive. But, they are not your worst financial enemy. Credit card companies love to add charges for many different errors on your part (and sometimes theirs). Late fees, over-limit fees, yearly fees, and returned check fees are just a few. They hike your interest rate if you looked cross-eyed on a Tuesday, or miss a payment (not just with them, but any creditor). Still, they are not your greatest financial enemy. Persuasive advertisers love to get you to buy, buy, and buy. They have you pegged as far as your habits. They know your wants and desires. They have so much information on you, the fight isnt even fair. Their ads make you feel good and pull all the triggers. Yet, they are not your greatest financial enemy. Finance companies who charge rates that reach to the moon do you no favors when you walk in the door. Sometimes you dont even need to walk in the door. They send you a check you can deposit in your account and thus take out a loan with them with out ever seeing them. They turn easy money into easy debt; easy until it comes time to pay the bill. Even here you will not find your greatest financial enemy. How about identity thieves? They pilfer your financial information, and run wild with the account they set up. They rummage through your trash, set up scams, and flat out steal your info. They definitely qualify as real lowlifes. Never the less they arent your greatest financial enemy either. So how do you find your greatest financial enemy? You go look in the mirror. This is the person you really need to watch. This is who gives into all of the credit offers in the mailbox. This person watches the television and reads the magazines; then responds to the ads that are displayed. It is this same person who is careless with their financial information or falls for the scams. This is the man or woman who spends more that they make. This person refuses to save any money. It is this person who doesnt invest for the future. This is also the person who doesnt educate themselves in matters of money. This is your greatest financial enemy. It is this person who ruins all your dreams. It is also this person over who you have the most control. Do not look anywhere else for the cause of your financial problems. You are in charge and you are accountable. You need to take the time to investigate all matters financial. You need to educate yourself concerning money, credit, debt and its uses. You are the one who needs to curb your spending. You are the one who needs to establish a plan for your savings and in turn your future. Your greatest enemy is in the mirror, and so is your greatest help and friend. Depending on who or what you see determines what you need to change or what you need to keep doing. Oral Chelation Therapy: A Class Apart from Intravenous Chelation in Heavy Metal Toxicity

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dr.Nelson_Hargove] Dr.Nelson Hargove Efficient oral chelation therapy for mercury toxicity and other heavy metal poisoning is now available with DMSA (Meso-2, 3-dimercaptosuccinic acid) and DMPS (2, 3-dimercapto propane-1-sulfonic acid). These oral chelators are water soluble and can be administered in the tablet form. The sulf-hydryl structures present in their structure is responsible for the property of chelation. These structures bind mercury in the body, leading to its excretion. Oral chelators were derived from dimercaprol, also known as British anti-Lewisite, (BAL). BAL has been used for chelation therapy in heavy metal poisoning since the 1940s. In 1975, Friedheim demonstrated that DMSA was a better choice than BAL for chelation therapy in mercury toxicity. These oral chelators also have a milder toxicity profile compared to BAL and D-penicillamine. Ever since then, DMSA has been the first choice for oral chelation therapy for mercury poisoning. In acute mercury toxicity, DMSA is given at a dose of 10 mg for every kilogram body weight divided over three times a day for five days. For example, a 60 kg person would be prescribed 200mg of DMSA, three times a day, for 5 days. Then the frequency of administration is reduced to twice a day for the next fourteen days. Thereafter, oral chelation therapy is guided by blood and 24-hour urine mercury levels. Chelation should be continued until the mercury blood level and the 24-hour urine mercury level falls below 20 microgram per liter. Comparison of Oral Chelation Therapy with BAL in Mercury Toxicity: Convenience of administration: Oral chelators are taken in the tablet form, whereas BAL needs to be given as painful injections into the muscles. Oral chelators are especially useful in chronic mercury toxicity (apart from acute toxicity) where long-term chelator therapy is required. Oral chelators are stable at room temperature for long periods. They retain their chemical structure and function despite exposure to the environment whereas BAL is unstable and very susceptible to oxidation. Chelation therapy using oral chelators like DMSA does not have any toxic effects on the brain. Some injectable chelators, like BAL for example, redistribute organic mercury from the system to the brain and may worsen the neural function in organic mercury toxicity. On the other hand, an oral chelator like DMSA removes mercury from the brain. Studies done on animals also highlights that oral chelation with DMSA is the most effective chelation therapy, reducing mercury levels up to 66.6% from the brain in organic mercury toxicity. High Safety Margin: The dose required to produce toxicity using oral chelators is very high compared to the dose required for therapy. This room for error allows oral chelation therapy to be used safety without close monitoring by a physician. On the other hand, chelation therapy with BAL has to be monitored very strictly. The safety and efficacy of oral chelators has been proven in multiple studies on animals and human beings. Treatment with DMSA results in the greatest urinary excretion of mercury compared to other heavy metal chelators. DMSA is highly effective in removing mercury from the blood, liver, brain, spleen, lungs, large intestine, skeletal muscles and bones. Adverse effects: Oral chelators generally do not produce any major side-effects other than stomach upsets, skin rashes. Very rarely chelation therapy may result in a reduction in blood cells and elevate the liver enzymes. However, they can cause deficiency of copper, zinc manganese and molybdenum. These minerals must be supplemented when oral chelation therapy is prescribed. The oral chelator, DMPS may cause asthmatic attacks and a reduction in blood pressure in some patients. Oral chelators remove mercury by excretion in urine. Therefore, they can only be used in people with normal kidney function. Reference: 1. Low Interest Rate Car Loan – Put Your Good Credit to Work

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder If you are in the market for a new vehicle, you will want to find a low interest rate car loan. One of the first things to do before starting your search for a new car is to obtain a copy of your credit report. You will want to make sure you have a good credit standing before applying for a new car loan. One of the first things car dealers do after you fill out an application it to run a credit check. It is not a pleasant experience to find out that your credit is not as good as you thought or that you have errors on your report when you are already at the car dealer. This can be both embarrassing and harmful to your credit. You want to try to avoid having to go from dealer to dealer to obtain a low interest rate car loan. Another tip to remember is that every time a dealer runs a check on your credit, it can affect your credit rating. If you already have a problem with your credit, you do not want to further lower your credit score, even if it is only by a few points. On the other hand, you can request your personal credit report as often as you like without it having any effect on your credit rating. High Credit Score Low Risk Having a high credit score rating is your best bet in obtaining a low interest rate car loan. Many consumers are lured into shopping for a new car by advertisements that promise very low interest rates, sometimes zero-percent financing. Unfortunately, not everyone qualifies for this low of a rate. Only customers with excellent or above average credit will be offered deals like these. This is why it is so important to clean up your credit report as much as possible before applying for a car loan. Improve Your Credit Score If you currently do not qualify for a low interest car rate loan there are steps you can take to improve your credit score rating. If the problem is simply an error on your credit report, you can contact the credit rating agency to have the problem resolved. Even though it is their error, they will most often ask for documentation if necessary to back up your claim. For example, if you have already paid off an account and your report shows the balance is $2,500, they will want a copy of the account being paid in full. By paying your bills on time, you can also improve your score and get a lower interest rate on a car loan. Even if you have had late payments in the past, if your current records show that you are making timely payments, lenders will view your record more favorably. Your debt to income ratio is also an important factor when trying to obtain a low interest rate car loan. You should try to keep your credit card limits well below the maximum amount allowed. Also, if you have paid off accounts in the past, you should not close the accounts out. Open accounts with a zero balance will help your debt to income ratio score. Budget Marketing: Maximizing Your Exposure

By Mat Kelly Every small business knows the importance of exposure to get customers in the door. And while execution of this basic marketing principle comes in varying degrees of complexity and cost, you do not have to empty the bank account to get your companys name in front of a targeted audience. Following the old, basic marketing model putting a sign with your companys name on the door; sprinkling your advertising budget across print, radio and television campaigns; and paying a graphic designer for a slick brochure or pamphlet minimizes your impact in the marketplace. An important step in expanding your customer base is gaining exposure to generate interest in your brand. And if you were thinking that you couldnt get a lot of exposure because of a limited budget, keep in mind that there are always effective, low-cost marketing options to attract potential customers. Heres a look at a couple of ideas to stretch your advertising dollars. Website Just under a decade ago, only the large companies were using their websites as effective marketing tools. Today, almost every business needs one. Your website serves as an essential piece of your overall marketing plan that fuels a sense of legitimacy for your business. If you dont have a website, potential customers may be turned off because these days, the perception is this: if you are a legitimate professional, you have a website. Its as important as having a phone number for your business. The options for the size, appearance and functionality of a website are endless. But a presence on the Web is essential for you to take your company beyond your word-of-mouth customer base. As you look into planning your website, remember to budget for website design, development, hosting, maintenance and content management. Trade Shows Trade shows bring a targeted group of businesses to one location, and the event is marketed toward that industrys target audience. When you participate as a vendor at a trade show, you know the customers walking in the door are more likely than the general public to be interested in your product or service. As attendees walk past your trade show booth, your display will introduce the customer to your company before they formally meet you. And you must come to the event prepared to sell your team should be skilled in delivering your elevator pitch, know the details of your product or service and be able answer any questions potential customers may ask. To make sure you attract attention and stand out from the crowd of exhibitors, you must make a smart decision about where to purchase your trade show display. If you are working with a limited budget, tabletop displays make a big statement for a small investment. And there are more advantages to table top displays than just price. Larger, more elaborate floor displays are often heavy, cumbersome, must be transported in several pieces and have a complex assembly that requires help from more than one person. Table top displays, on the other hand, are reasonably compact and lightweight, easily transportable (whether by airplane or car) and simple to put together. Many come with lighting, a shipping case, and a variety of add-on options to make your display more elaborate. If you are looking to fine-tune that polished look, remember to add table throws, trade show flooring and literature racks. If you arent quite sure which type of trade show display you want or need, you may be able to rent a more sophisticated model for a significantly lower price. Sponsorships It seems that advertising has sneaked its way into every nook and cranny of our existence and from your local weather broadcast to the Olympics, companies large and small have learned that sponsorships are advertising at its best. Companies often sponsor well-publicized events to create an association in the consumers psyche between charitable giving and their company and/or product even companies that are well-known household names. McDonalds was an official sponsor for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games; Altria (the parent company of Kraft Foods and Philip Morris) sponsors domestic violence prevention programs; from childrens health in New Zealand to classrooms for students in England, Microsoft spends millions of dollars each year in charitable giving; and scores of small and large businesses offer funding to support events and causes in their local community, from cancer walks and 10K marathons to your local after-school programs, symphony, little league teams and amateur sports leagues. No matter the size of your company, there is a charitable organization, cause or event that could use your dollars for support. Of course, the more money you give, the more exposure you will receive. But, whether you give $100 or $1,000, your company will receive some exposure. There is an endless list of other strategies to get your companys name in front of a limited audience speaking engagements, volunteer work, memberships with clubs and associations, give-away promotions etc. But through an effective website, regular trade show participation and a consistent sponsorship strategy, you will be maximizing your marketing dollars for quality exposure without blowing your budget. Review: Nokia 6086 Mobile Phone

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tosif_Patel]Tosif Patel The Nokia 6086 is yet another clam shell offering from the Nokia stable, although in line with recent clam shell offerings the phone offers more than you would imagine on initial viewing. The dimensions of the handset are a compact 92 mm x 46 mm x 23 mm and it weighs in at a light weight 84 grams, making it perfect for easy carriage, and conveniently fits into the smallest of pockets. The battery power supply offers 240 hours GSM and 96 hours UMA standby time, with 5 hours GMS and 6 hours UMA talk time – more than generous in todays market place. This is Nokias second entry in the fashionable UMA (unlicensed mobile access) market, which allows easy roaming access between all of the standard mobile phone networks, together with a constant WiFi connection in the relevant areas. This type of system is proving ever more popular, although the Nokia 6086 also supports GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900 as well as UMA. The mobile uses the powerful EDGE software which is the most up to date in the market place. The handset itself is currently available in Black and White and offers two LCD displays, one on the outside for call and message alerts without opening the phone, as well as the main larger display within the body of the phone. While the keyboard is a slightly different style to the older Nokia phones, the positioning of the keys and navigation roll key is the same. The phone itself offers a variety of messaging options from the standard SMS to MMS to the now essential email facility, which is supported by the inbuilt WAP browser. The phone also offers a camera facility, although this is not as up to date as it could be. It does however support Bluetooth data transfer, although Nokia has decided to leave out the more common infra red option – in a move away from the standard. As Bluetooth is now common across most electronic devices, this should not be a major issue. The Nokia 6086 also has a number of JAVA games pre-installed to help with those long journeys, and offers the now familiar personal organiser common in 99% of todays mobile phones. With additional memory ports to add extra capacity, the Nokia 6086 has the majority of functionality required, although it is not a top of the range model – more of an entry level new technology phone. Due out in early 2007, further reviews will follow.
